Time of My Life

Looking back, I realize that all of my travel experiences have changed me in some way. In fact, I think my ever-present urge to change and grow is part of the reason I do travel. I like to challenge myself by putting myself in new situations, and then learn from them.

My recent trip to Friesland, a northern province of the Netherlands, was no exception to the rule. Upon my safe arrival back to the city I now call home, I am forced back to reality and have to undergo the constant struggle to hold on to the way I felt during the trip, and the things I learned.

Hopefully this week I will be able to find the time and the right words to write about some of the important aspects of my trip. These include, but are not limited to: the different activities I did/saw that are in line with getting the "typical Frisian experience" (e.g., wadlopen, or walking around in mud and water at low tide; fierljeppen, an awesome Frisian sport), the differences between Dutch and US culture (in a wide variety of arenas), and most importantly, the new friendships I made and the old ones that were enhanced.

Before I write all of that, though, I'd like to send a special thank you out to Carol, without whom this life-changing experience would not be possible. Carol has certainly won the award in my book for the 'Best Hostess in a Foreign Country.' Hands down. No contest. Carol, I know you know this, but I just have to say it again. I had a GREAT time. Friesland 2008, baby! I really enjoyed seeing everything, but also just hanging out with you the whole time. If you EVER want me to come again to help you keep up your English skills, you just let me know... To use your phrase, "I would be much excited." ;)

Stay tuned for more detailed posts on my trip. And for now, please enjoy the above picture of me frolicking in the hills of the Netherlands. As you can see, being there made me feel like a deer, or some type of uncoordinated gazelle.

First of all the frolicking gazelle photo is top notch! Second, well said, I always have a hard time after travel explaining my trip and what I learned to everyone around me, sometimes I don't even try for fear of not getting it right but I am very happy that you are! love you
