Toothpaste + a warm night breeze = camping, clearly

I really love nostalgia and I have many fond memories that I enjoy recalling. For me, the strongest elicitation of nostalgia comes from various combinations of smells. Its pretty amazing how much a smell can bring up a specific circumstance or set of circumstances.

Just now, for instance, I was brushing my teeth and the combination of toothpaste and the warm air coming in the window brought up vivid images of camping with my family. For those of you that camp, maybe you know what I'm talking about. Its that distinct combo of smells that you get once you have traipsed through the dark with your toiletry kit, dodged the tent strings, and successfully made it to the camp bathroom. It usually hits your nostrils when you are brushing your teeth and eluding the moths that are trying to dive bomb your toothbrush...sigh...isn't camping great?

I must have camping on the brain lately because earlier today another thing reminded me of it: the sound of the zipper on my purse. May sound silly but zippers also always make me think of camping too. I mean, all through the night you can hear them, either near or in the distance, along with all the other naturious (is that a word?) sounds of the night.

Alright, seriously, I think I need to plan a camping trip. I've been thinking about this for a while, and it just might be time. If you are interested, or know of good places within driving distance of Philly, please let me know.

The picture above is a waterfall in the Deleware Water Gap National Park, where I went with my mom and brother this past summer. It was a beautiful park and worth visiting again, however, I don't know that alcohol is allowed. I note this because I have a feeling this might sway some of my potential camping buddies from coming with me, and is therefore something to think about...
