You win... You always do.

For those of you keeping score at home, the score is now:

Caffeine addiction: 1
Shawn: 0

After 3 days of near clinical depression, I made a conscious choice to not significantly cut back or eliminate caffeine from my system. Both my sluggish body and cloudy mind did not seem to approve of this change, and I wasn't willing to wait out their stubbornness. Thus, out of concern for my career as a graduate student and my my social life (I became quite irritable and somewhat of a downer, ask anyone who talked to me Monday or Tuesday), I am back to drinking coffee at least every weekday, and loving every minute of it.

Luckily, this endeavour was not in vain, as some good did come of it. First, I am drinking about 1/2 the amount I used to drink, which I see as a significant improvement. Second, my tolerance for caffeine decreased so now, my 16 or so ounces a day really gives me a boost! Lastly, my heartburn has yet to rear its ugly head since Saturday, which was the whole purpose of cutting back in the first place.

Overall, I am perfectly content taking the loss. In fact, if given the chance, I would certainly pretend coffee was a deer and steal a line from Robert Goulet [played by Will Farrell, SNL skit] saying with a defeated, but pleasant grin: "You win [coffee], you always do."
